Preparation for the Music Entrance Exam

Do you want to make music your career and study music? Are you already playing your major instrument at a good level, but want to improve even further so you’re fully prepared for the entrance exam for a bachelor’s program? Then you’ve come to the right place. Our “Bachelor’s Preparation” pre-degree program is designed for young musicians between the ages of 16 and 27 who already have an advanced level of proficiency in their primary instrument and want to prepare for a bachelor’s degree program in a focused and comprehensive way.

 

Preparing for a Bachelor's Degree: The Most Important Information at a Glance

Requirement: Advanced level in the major with a clear academic path

Goal: Admission to a European conservatory

Duration: Standard period of study is 3 semesters; may be shortened upon successful completion of the entrance exam; maximum duration of study is 4 semesters

Start of the semester: October 1 and April 1

Application deadline: August 31 (for October 1) and February 15 (for April 1)

Structure: Individual, Modular Approach

Language of Instruction: German

Costs: €1,000 per month for EU citizens and €1,200 per month for non-EU citizens

 

Preparing for a Bachelor's Degree in Music

To be eligible to study music at a European university or college, you must pass an entrance exam. This exam consists of a practical and a theoretical portion, the exact content of which may vary depending on the institution:

Practical Exam:

  1. Audition for the Major in the Performing Arts
  2. Prelude as a Major or Minor Subject

Theoretical Exam:

  1. Music Theory and Aural Training
  2. Oral exam or interview

The goal of our bachelor’s preparation program at the Johannes Brahms Conservatory is to provide individual support to musicians as they pursue admission to a music college and to help them further develop their existing potential in a targeted manner. To this end, during the bachelor’s preparation program, you’ll work with our professional instructors to hone your practical and theoretical skills so that you’re fully prepared for the entrance exam and everyday life as a music student.

Over the course of 3 to 4 semesters, you will receive comprehensive instruction in the following areas:

Artistic Training at the College Level
